Our surgeons perform over 850 cardiac operations each year – from the most common to the most complex – and we have an astounding 95 percent survival rate. This makes us the second largest and one of the elite programs in the United States.

- We develop an individual care plan for each and every patient. Our internationally recognized team of cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, cardiac nurses, anesthesiologists and allied health professionals know how to care for this special group of patients.
- We perform more cardiac surgical and open-heart procedures than nearly every other program in the nation. Research shows that practice makes perfect. From 2001-2005, we performed over 800 procedures annually.
- We take bold new approaches to care – U-M physician Dr. Edward Bove and his pediatric cardiac surgical colleagues revolutionized the surgical approach to Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. We are now a world leader in the best care for children with HLHS.
- We center on life. We were the first pediatric hospital in the country to create a Child Life program where children can still be children even though they are sick: attending school while they are in the hospital, visiting with their friends and family in a welcoming environment, and engaging in crafts and programs that make it easier to be in the hospital. And our social workers work only in the Congenital Heart Center, concentrating on the special needs of our patients and their families.
- We are there for you. The University of Michigan Health System setting is fantastic, providing state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for all levels of care, and the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, where we are located, is one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation. If you need to stay long term, the warm and welcoming Ronald McDonald House is across the street. And, we have satellite offices and programs throughout the state of Michigan.
