Awards & Certifications

Among our many distinctions and honors, here’s a glimpse into why Mott remains one of the leaders and best in providing pediatric health care:

• Mott is the only children’s hospital in Michigan to be ranked as a best children’s hospital in the United States by Child Magazine in. (2005)
  
• U.S. News ranked the University of Michigan Medical School 9th among the nation’s 125 accredited medical schools, which speaks to our dedication to educational excellence. We train some of the best pediatricians, surgeons and specialists in the nation – many of whom choose to continue their careers providing care to Mott and other University of Michigan Health System patients. • Mott was reverified as a pediatric Level 1 trauma center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons in recognition of its dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. (2004) As one of only 13  Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Programs in the country, Mott has the ability to care for the most severely injured pediatric patients, and also serve as a comprehensive resource to all regional hospitals caring for injured children.
• The University of Michigan Health System, which includes Mott and Women’s hospitals, was ranked as the 11th best health system in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. (2005)
• In Fiscal Year 2004, the U-M Department of Pediatrics received more than $14 million in NIH Pediatric Funding. These important research and training dollars fund the science and studies that improve the delivery of health care to children and adults. (2004)
• A health care quality report released by the Michigan Health and Safety Coalition awarded its highest ranking to the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers in all eight categories of treatment that were evaluated. Mott and Women’s hospitals are part of UMHHC. As the only hospital surveyed that earned the highest "five bullet" rating in every category, UMHS ratings far exceeded the tough recommendations set forth in the coalition's guidelines. (2004)
• The Michigan Congenital Heart Center at Mott serves as a model for optimal organization and operation of pediatric congenital heart care in the United States. The Center is recognized internationally for its success with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and for its success in heart transplant service.
• “Your Child,” the U-M Health System parenting web site, was deemed one of the most authoritative, noncommercial guides to child development and behavior on the Internet by Child & Family Web Guide. In addition, this site recently received a Medicine on the Net Web Excellence Award for Outstanding Content. (2005)
• The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing awarded its first ever Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Hospital Award to the U-M Health System’s childhood hearing program. (2004)
  
• The Pediatric Pulmonary and Blood Gas Laboratory recently completed its biennial accreditation inspections by the College of American Pathologists with "no deficiencies." A certification of "no deficiencies" declares all instruments for both labs are functioning at a high level of accuracy. The lab has a record of successful inspections that spans more than a decade.
